Integrity & policies
Academic advising
An adviser helps a student understand where they stand and what to do next. Common reasons to ask:
- Progress through a programme
- Module choices, where a programme offers them
- Difficulty keeping up with study
- Understanding an assignment brief
- Completion requirements
- Returning after a break
What advising does not do
- An adviser helps a student understand and plan. An adviser does not change a grade or an academic record.
- Any change to a record requires proper authorisation and is recorded in the institutional system.
- Advising conversations are separate from counselling records.
